Ecotourism and Sustainable Development: Who Owns Paradise?

By Martha Honey

If you might be looking for a behind the scenes look at the ecotourism industry as well as a glimpse into various eco projects around the planet, this book provides detailed description of both. In particular, Honey describes the impacts of eco projects in seven locations, Cuba, Costa Rica, South Africa, Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, and the Galapagos, and delves into the issue of whether or not these projects are really working.

Ecotourism: An Introduction

by David A. Fennell

This book is a great primer for learning the basics. It covers all bases of the industry from policy, to marketing strategies, to impacts, to history. Inside, pages are filled with case studies and photographs from around the globe including the U.S., Mexico, Canada, Australia, Austria, and Scotland. In short, it’s a good start towards understanding the key concepts of the subject.

Adventures in Nature Mexico

by Ron Mader

The author of this guide to Mexico had the ecotourist in mind when writing this book. It’s packed with information on the area’s vast number of nature reserves and also with harder to find material such as tips on staying with locals. The book provides a great overview of the country as well as being a solid blueprint for future guidebooks catered to the ecotourist.
